Oxnard Women's Basketball Clinches First Win of the Season in Close 53-51 Victory Over Ohlone

The Oxnard College women's basketball team secured their first win of the 2024-25 season in a thrilling 53-51 finish against Ohlone College on Thursday night.

In a back-and-forth game, Oxnard used a strong defensive performance and key contributions from their starters to hold off a late push by Ohlone. Despite a slow start in the first quarter, where they trailed 13-3, the Condors gained momentum and held on for the victory.

  • Ryan Maquinalez led Oxnard with 11 points and 11 rebounds, contributing a double-double while providing steady defense throughout the game.
  • Alyssa Galelayah-Tapia scored 14 points, leading the team in scoring, while also grabbing 7 rebounds.

For Ohlone, Thadar Set was the leading scorer with 8 points and 7 rebounds, while Tia Stevenson put up 13 points off the bench. Despite a valiant comeback effort in the final quarter, Ohlone could not close the gap as Oxnard kept them at arm's length.
