Santa Maria, CA – In a dramatic 10-inning conference game, the Oxnard College Softball team (15-16, 7-5) clawed their way back to a 7-6 victory over Allan Hancock College (8-18, 4-8) in Western State Conference (WSC) action on Tuesday afternoon.
After building an early 4-0 lead, the Condors found themselves trailing 5-4 entering the seventh. But freshman third baseman Savannah Saxton delivered a clutch solo home run to even the score and keep Oxnard alive.
Locked in a 5-5 tie heading into the 10th, the Condors once again stepped up under pressure. Center fielder Isabela Nava laced a double to left center to bring home Saxton, and Briana Guzman followed with a groundout RBI to give Oxnard a 7-5 cushion.
Freshman pitcher Amber Cervantez went the distance, throwing all 10 innings to earn another win (9). Cervantez was sharp throughout, allowing just two earned runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking two over a grueling 166-pitch performance.
The Bulldogs attempted a final push in the bottom of the 10th with a sacrifice fly from Dezirae Rodriguez, but the Condors held strong to seal the victory.
Offensively, Oxnard was powered by:
- Savannah Saxton: 2-for-5, HR, 2 R, RBI
- Isabela Nava: 2-for-5, 2B, R, RBI, 2 SB
- Amber Cervantez: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, SF
- Briana Guzman: 1 RBI, 1 R
The win boosts Oxnard's WSC record to 7-5 as they look to carry this momentum into the final stretch of the season.
