April 1, 2025 – Oxnard, CA – The Oxnard College Condors pulled off an electrifying comeback victory against LA Pierce on Tuesday, rallying late to claim a 12-11 win in extra innings. The victory extends their winning streak to six games and showcases the team's resilience and spirit.
The game, played in the Nest, featured dramatic momentum swings as both teams battled through ten innings of intense competition, and intense cold wind. The Condors struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but LA Pierce responded with a five-run surge in the third and continued to build their lead. Entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Oxnard trailed 6-4 before exploding for a five-run rally to seize control at 9-6.
However, LA Pierce refused to back down, tying the game at 9-9 in the ninth inning, forcing extra frames. The Brahmas briefly took the lead in the top of the tenth, but the Condors delivered the final blow in the bottom half. Shu Sugita's clutch RBI single brought in Isaiah Justo to tie the game, followed by Ian Morales delivering the walk-off hit that sealed the 12-11 victory.
Sugita played a key role, collecting three hits and two RBIs, while Jorge Rodarte contributed a triple and two RBIs. Brendan McBride and Ahmed Mohamed combined to hold off LA Pierce in the late innings, with Mohamed earning his tenth save of the season.
"This was a gutsy, never-give-up type of win," said Tony McMillin. "We showed incredible heart, and that's what this team is all about. To fight back after being down multiple times and finish it off in extras shows our character."
The Condors, now on a six-game winning streak, will look to keep the momentum going as they play game two of the series at LA Pierce on Thursday from 2:00.
