The OC Women's Soccer team fought valiantly in their season opener against Taft College on Tuesday afternoon at the Condors Nest, ultimately falling short with a 2-1 defeat. Despite a slow start, the Condors displayed resilience and dominated the final 70 minutes of the match, outplaying Taft in the second half.

Taft College took an early lead, with Faith Lelouis scoring twice in the first half, both goals assisted by Stephany Castillo. The first goal came just seconds into the match, and Lelouis added her second goal shortly after, putting Oxnard in a challenging 2-0 deficit.

The Condors regrouped during halftime and came out strong in the second half, determined to close the gap. Oxnard's persistence paid off in the 89th minute when Gennesis Higuera found the back of the net with an unassisted goal, bringing the score to 2-1. Higuera's goal was a testament to the Condors' never-give-up attitude as they continued to pressure Taft's defense until the final whistle.

Oxnard outshot Taft in the match, recording 14 total shots, with four on target. The Condors' defensive effort was also noteworthy, as they prevented Taft from registering any shots on goal in the second half. Goalkeeper Hannah Christopherson made one save in the first half before being replaced by Myranda Figueroa, who held Taft scoreless in the final 45 minutes.

The Condors will look to build on their second-half performance as they prepare for their next match against Reedley College on Friday from 5:00.
