Condor Harriers Soar at WSC Finals

The Condors roll through the Western State Conference Championships at Pierce College and perform well on both fronts.

In the Women's race, the Condors continuing to run strong held onto their 3rd place rank in the conference just behind Glendale in 1st (50 points) and Allan Hancock 2nd (82 points) and ahead of Ventura in 4th (104 points).  Sophomore Shelly Martin continued to lead the squad with a 13th place finish with a time of 20:08.  Magy Rosales, Nathallie Ojeda and Marylynn Mendieta worked together in a tight pack throughout the hilly course and finished in 20th, 21st and 22nd respectively.  Savannah Landaverde bouncing back from a tough race at the Mt. SAC Invitational the week prior reclaimed her scoring spot for the team and finished in 34th place with a time of 23:34. Maryjane Arreola finished in 42nd (24:50), Yoselin Gonzalez finished in 45th (25:26), Daisy Rosete in 48th (25:58) and Apple Avalos in 63rd (35:01).

In the Men's race, the Condors were able to step it up on the day and improve their ranking in the conference from the WSC Preview meet finishing in 9th (265 points) finishing ahead of L.A. Mission in 10th (287 points).  Reyes Gonzales continuing to lead the Condor men put in a clutch performance to break into the Top 30 finishing in 29th place with a time of 24:42 for the 4-mile course.  Sophomore Francisco Perez came through in his race to finish in 48th place with a time of 26:01.  Freshman Andy Albavera returning just in time for conference competition placed 61st with a time of 26:51. Tomas Guerra hung tough to hold onto his position finished in 95th with a time of 31:42.  Sophomore Jesus Rodriguez rounding out the team score placing 103rd in a time of 35:48.  Luis Alcalde finished 104th (37:21) and Armando Cabeza in 110th (53:37).

The Condors will represent at the SoCal Regional Championships on November 3rd in Long Beach with the women's team receiving an automatic spot with their 3rd place conference finish and the men with at least two individual automatic spots including a possibility of an at-large berth for the Men's team to advance.
