Oxnard, CA - March 18, 2024 - Oxnard College's softball team marked a triumphant return to the field after a two-year hiatus by clinching their first win of the season over Santa Monica College, 10-9. Led by standout players Julianna Lopez, Ariana Maldonado, and Alexis Vallejo, the team showcased remarkable resilience and skill on the diamond.

Julianna Lopez stood out with an impressive 3 for 4 performance, contributing two runs scored and two crucial RBIs. Ariana Maldonado also made her mark, going 2 for 5, while Alexis Vallejo's stellar performance included going 2 for 4 with an impressive three runs scored. Juliann Herrera, Cynthia Vallejo, and Brianna Sepulveda each went 2 for 4, displaying exceptional teamwork and determination.

Pitcher Juliann Herrera not only shined on the mound but also secured the victory for Oxnard College in the Western State Conference (WSC) match, striking out three Corsairs throughout the game.

Assistant Coach, Angie McCampbell, filling in for head coach, Bianca Noriega had some comments after the game. "I'm so proud of the way the girls battled. They faced a lot of adversity to come away with a win on the road; strong, gusty winds, a foreign playing surface, injuries, and a diefferent coach.  The game was back and forth intil the 7th when they were able to hold on for the win.  They had a strong offensive outing, scoring 10 runs off of 15 hits to hold off the Corsairs."

The win marks a significant milestone for Oxnard College's softball program, signaling a successful return to competitive play. Eager to maintain their momentum, Oxnard College will be hosting Allan Hancock College at the Nest on Tuesday afternoon from 2:30 pm, promising another thrilling matchup for fans and supporters alike.
