Elsa Guerrero was recognized as the 2022 Western State Conference Cross Country Assistant Coach of the Year. She was chosen by all cross country and track coaches in the WSC. The award is given to one assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs, based on dedication to their team, being a role model, and overall team success.

"It is an honor to be recognized in such a very competitive conference. I owe this to my athletes (ladies) who show their pride and passion for the sport every day to be their best", commented Coach Guerrero.

Coach Guerrero started as a volunteer coach at Oxnard College in 2000 and has served as the Assistant Cross Country Coach at Oxnard College for the past two seasons. She is an Oxnard native, graduated from Hueneme High School in 1997 and received her Associates Degree from Ventura College. She received an athletic scholarship and transferred to Cal State Stanislaus where she graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Child Development in 2005. Elsa competed for the warriors and was a contributing member for both the Cross Country and Track team with her personal best being 19:05 in the 5,000m and 40:00 in the 10,000m.

"Elsa was very key behind the scenes in keeping the women's team together and motivated throughout this season, that contributed to our great success.  Her enthusiasm and passion towards coaching is what makes our program truly work", commented Head Coach Aaron Sharp.

The OC Women's Cross Country team qualified for the State Championship in November for the second consecutive time and placed 12th in this year's State Championships.
