Oxnard College Softball celebrated two outstanding sophores on Tuesday afternoon, prior to taking the field for the last home game in the Nest.
Yoalli Parrilla is corner infielder and will graduate from OC next month with Associates Degrees in Sociology and Social Behaviors. She's earned a 3.45 GPA in her almost three years as a student in the district. She plans to attend Cal Lutheran University next year, on an academic scholarship, with plans to get a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. Yoalli added more than .100 points to her batting average from last year, hitting .278 this year. In two seasons, she's tallied 38 hits, including six doubles, four triples, and two homers. She's scored 25 times and plated 29 runners. She's had six multi-hit games this season, splitting her time between the hot corner and first base.
Destiny Murillo is a sophomore catcher and will graduate from OC next month with Associates Degrees in Social and Behavioral Sciences as well as Arts and Humanities. The 3.1 GPA Condor is still deciding between attending the University of Antelope Valley or CSU Channel Islands, where she'll major in Sociology. In two seasons as the Condors' only catcher, Destiny has played hundreds of innings and called thousands of pitches. She's caught eight different hurlers in her two springs and has made each of them better. She's grown to be a vocal leader to her teammates. Destiny's .445 batting average this season is third in all of the Western State Conference. She's third in hits with 49, fourth in RBI with 41, and fifth in slugging at .691. In her two springs, she's amassed 78 RBI, six homers, five triples, 20 doubles, 83 hits and scored 40 runs. She was recently named the 2018-2019 Oxnard College's Female Athletes of the Year for the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame.
The game did not go as planned for the Condors, dropping a 13-1 decision. The lone bright spot was Giselle Roldan pounding her 10th HR of the season, putting her in contention for WSC POY.
The Condors ended their season at 7-9 in the WSC, and 14-19-1 overall. That is the best season since 2012 in conference and 2011 overall.
The OC softball team is in good hands with second-year head coach Erin Lawley.
