The Condors set out with one goal in mind at the beginning of the season--to win another CCCAA Championship. That pursuit was ended on Saturday on a muddy pitch in Cerritos, CA.
The Cerritos Falcons defeated OC 4-1, with off-and-on rain and a home-field advantage, that prooved too much.
Oxnard opened with a 1-0 lead, on a goal by Luis Juarez from Carlos Gomez and Jose Olea. The mud and lack of grass created many slips and strange bounces as the Condors defended against the number-two ranked team in southern California.
The Falcons scored in the 30th minute to tie the contest at 1-1. Cerritos got one more goal in the first half, going to the break up 2-1.
Some dubious cards were shown in the second half, giving Cerritos a two-man advantage for the majority of the second period. Oxnard amassed 19 yellow cards on the season, with opponents picking up 45 total. However, this game saw OC pick-up five cards (3 yellow and two red) to the Falcon's two yellows.
The Falcons tacked on two second half goals to end the game 4-1, and to end OC's run at a second State Championsip.
Oxnard finished the season at 17-4-3 and a Western State Conference title to their credit.
