The Condors (5-11) won a tough defensive battle on Friday night over visiting Compton College (1-12), 45-30.

Vanessa Maldonado led all scorers with 15 points, with Mary Nichols netting 12 points of her own.

OC took a 27-19 lead into the locker room at halftime, and pulled away in the third period.

"I loved our intensity, but it was really physical on the floor.  It was intense and hard-fought, right before conference to get us ready," said Ron McClurkin.

The Condors open up WSC play on January 19th and will host Allan Hancock College.  Men tipoff at 1:00 and Women will play at 3:00.

The Men dropped a close game against LA Valley College, 72-66.

KV Myricks led OC again with 15 points and nine rebounds.  William Blue and Al Stubbs scored 14 and 13 points each, with Taieem Comeaux going for seven points and six rebounds.

Oxnard took the lead in the first half, but was unable to keep up the defensive intensity.  They trailed at the half by six, the difference in the ball game.

"We have to do a better job sharing and playing team basketball.  We did some good things, but overall, we need to play smarter as a team," said McClurkin.
